The Mighty Ducks, trying to post their first winning season, also extended their home ice unbeaten streak to 13 games (9-0-4).

Kariya's 42nd goal, coming off a pass from Selanne on a two-on-one break, trickled over the glove of goalie Arturs Irbe Artūrs Irbe (born February 2, 1967 in Riga, Latvia) is a Latvian professional Hockey goaltender in the National Hockey League who played for the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets. , who lunged forward and just tipped the puck as he was going down.

The Mighty Ducks dominated play through much of the first two periods, but the Stars suddenly came to life late in the second, scoring twice in a 37-second span to draw even at 2-2.

Dallas defenseman Mike Lalor, getting his first goal of the season, took a pass from Mike Modano and sailed a 20-foot slap shot past goalie Mikhail Shtalenkov at 14:27 of the period. On an almost identical play moments later, Joe Nieuwendyk, on the left side, centered the puck to Dave Reid and Reid fired a slap shot that zipped past the Ducks' goalie and tied the game.

Selanne had given the Mighty Ducks a two-goal pad when he came out of a scramble for the puck at the blue line, broke down the left side, bore down on Irbe and slid the puck between his pads for the forward's 49th goal of the season midway through the second period.

Selanne, who has 22 points in his past 12 games, set up Anaheim's first-period score when he skated behind the Stars' goal and pulled up, turned and threaded a perfect pass through two defenders to Rucchin, who banged in the shot from close range.

The Stars, 9-1-2 in their past 12 games, could have set a franchise record with an eighth straight victory.
