But there wasn't much doubt they knew exactly what was at stake when Oleg Tverdovsky Oleg Tverdovsky (born May 18, 1976 in Donetsk, U.S.S.R. -- now Ukraine) is a professional ice hockey defenceman who currently plays for Ufa Salavat Yulayev of the Russian Super League.  put them ahead to stay in the second period at San Jose Arena. Anaheim players banged their sticks in a rare mid-game celebration, a celebration that was completed after the Ducks defeated San Jose 4-2.

The much-needed victory moved them into ninth-place in the Western Conference standings, two points behind both Colorado and San Jose, which are tied for the final playoff spots.

Tverdovsky's power-play goal at 18:18 of the second period gave Anaheim the lead, but the Ducks couldn't breathe any sigh of relief until Mike Leclerc Michael Leclerc (born November 10, 1976 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) is a professional ice hockey player. Playing career

San Jose had some excellent chances to take a two-goal lead, but Hebert made a big save on Ronnie Stern's bid from the right circle eight minutes into the second and the Sharks failed to get a shot on net on a three-on-one at the 10-minute mark.

. Ruslan Salei hit the post and Shields made a great save on Matt Cullen's 15-footer from the slot before the San Jose goalie wowed the crowd with a sprawling Dominik Hasek-style save on a breakaway by Ted Donato with nine minutes left in the period.

But as the crowd screamed its approval of Shields stopping Donato's bid with his head and shoulder, Steve Rucchin fought through Marco Sturm on an offensive zone faceoff and pushed the puck to Marty McInnis, who tapped in the tying goal at 11:30.

Owen Nolan hit the crossbar and Hebert made two saves on Vincent Damphousse before Mike Ricci was called for interference on Rucchin, giving the Ducks a chance to take the lead.
