DUCHESS ON HAND AS SCHOOL REALISES ITS VISION.

Less than three years ago Collingwood was the first special school in Northumberland to be awarded Specialist School Status in Media Arts, and is now officially called Collingwood School and Media Arts College Arts Colleges were introduced in 1995 as part of the Specialist Schools Programme in the United Kingdom. The system enables secondary schools to specialise in certain fields, in this case, the performing, visual and/or media arts. . The new media suite has dedicated animation, sound and editing suites, along with a studio floor and green wall for recording special effects.

Staff plan to allow the community and other schools to use the facility and enjoy workshops on animation and photography.

And the progress won't stop now - the school has been awarded a pounds 2,500 grant from Castle Morpeth Borough Council to provide a community cinema at the school.
