 DU PONT ADDS NEW HUBS TO PARAGON INTELLIGENT NETWORKING SYSTEM;
 SIX-SLOT HUBS PROVIDE PORT SWITCHING FUNCTIONALITY
 FOR BOTH ETHERNET AND TOKEN RING NETWORKS
 RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Du Pont Electronics, Electro-Optic Products Group (EOP) has now brought the high end functionality of its PARAGON(TM) Intelligent Networking System to departmental and small premises applications.
 The two new six slot PARAGON Departmental Concentrators, Models DPT-0601 and DPT-0602, are intelligent hubs targeted for use in departments of up to 60 Ethernet or Token Ring users. The hubs support two Ethernets and up to twelve Token Rings, and feature a field- installable backplane for the addition of future technologies such as Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), and Switched Multimegabit Data Service (SMDS).
 Du Pont's new DPT hubs are compatible with all of the existing Ethernet, Token Ring, Network Management, Bridge, and Router modules used in 20-slot PARAGON Premises Hub. All PARAGON modules feature both hardware- and software-controlled port switching, which allows the network manager to reassign individual ports from one Ethernet or Token Ring backplane channel to another to improve network performance or security. When performing maintenance on the system, all PARAGON modules can be "hot swapped" to eliminate costly network downtime.
 The new PARAGON Departmental Concentrators are only 5.25 inches tall, and may be either rackmounted in a standard 19-inch equipment rack or placed on a tabletop. Both hubs feature a cable management duct to the right of the module slots, to help eliminate the tangle of cables normally found in wiring closets.
 Du Pont's new Departmental Concentrators complement the capabilities of the PARAGON Premises Hub, a 20-slot concentrator that can accommodate up to 228 Ethernet or 200 Token Ring connections. The PARAGON Premises Hub features the same backplane structure as the Departmental Concentrators, with the added capability of supporting up to 40 Token Rings.
 Modules currently available for both the PARAGON Premises and Departmental Hubs include 10BaseT, 10BaseFL/FOIRL, and AUI connectivity for Ethernet; unshielded, shielded, and IEEE 802.5J fiber optic cabling for Token Ring; SNMP management; and RISC-based multi-port, multi- protocol Logical Bridge/Router modules.
 Both of Du Pont's new PARAGON Departmental Concentrators are available now. Model DPT-0601 features a single 250 Watt power supply, and is priced at $2295. Model DPT-0602 features load sharing dual 250 Watt power supplies for added network protection, and is priced at $2995. Spare single and dual-redundant power supplies may also be purchased separately.
 The Electro-Optic Products Group has been manufacturing and marketing multimedia LAN systems for commercial, academic, and industrial environments since 1987. Du Pont offers the PARAGON Intelligent Networking System, a family of standards-based intelligent hubs with sophisticated network management software, to address the diverse networking needs of medium/large premises installations. The PARAGON system is complemented by the LAN ONE family of networking products, for departmental Ethernet and Token Ring applications.
