 DU PONT ACQUIRES COMPOSITES BUSINESS
WILMINGTON, Del., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Du Pont (NYSE: DD)

announced today it has completed its acquisition of the Tribon business from the Stackpole Corporation.
Tribon is an established manufacturer of small composite parts for high-performance aerospace applications including jet engines. Terms were not disclosed.
"This acquisition strengthens our ability to meet current customer needs as well as develop new products for future systems," said J. Michael Bowman, vice president and general manager-Du Pont Advanced Materials Systems. "It underscores Du Pont's commitment to composites as a key growth area and reinforces our focus on supplying parts as the best way to deliver value to our customers while building a long-term sustainable business."
The business will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary called Du Pont Tribon Composites, Inc. According to Du Pont Composites Operations Director William Spencer, "Tribon brings with it an excellent quality rating in the industry. Our combined capabilities offer our aerospace customers increased stability of supply and greatly enhanced product development."
Du Pont will maintain and build the Tribon product line, Spencer said. "Ultimately, the marketplace will see a complete Du Pont product line meeting its high-performance wear and friction needs. Applications from room temperature to greater than 3,000 F will be possible, whether the answer is Du Pont's established line of parts made from 'Vespel' or 'Avimid'N, or from our emerging ceramics technologies," Spencer said.
Established in 1976, Tribon is located in Cleveland and employs about 110. The Stackpole Corporation is a privately held corporation with a diversified portfolio.
Du Pont's involvement in advanced composites began in the 1970s with the introduction of "Kevlar" aramid and honeycomb of "Nomex" aramid. Du Pont Composites was formed in 1985 to extend Du Pont's traditional role as a materials supplier to a supplier of complete composite systems. The business focuses on the aircraft/aerospace, automotive, industrial, electronics and orthopedics markets.
