(Birmingham, AL), a unit of Time Warner (New York). No terms were given. Established in 1886, "The Progressive Farmer" is published ten times a year for a mostly-paid circulation of 630,000 small farmers and consumers who live in the country and need information on developments in small farming operations and the "country life-style." Editorial includes information on such topics as: operating a small dairy farm; exploring alternative incomes; raising chickens; the increase in organic markets; training horses; nutrition and health advice for cattle farmers; new products and equipment; energy conservation; restorations; legal property issues; and, new technologies. DTN said the acquired property is the largest publication focusing on the information needs of the "farm lifestyle market." Magazine operations will remain in Alabama. DTN CEO Robert Gordon said the purchase of the title "supports (our) goal of expanding (our) media presence in a vibrant, rural America. 'The Progressive Farmer' provides DTN a leading position in meeting the information needs of the farm lifestyle market, allowing us to expand beyond our traditional commercial agricultural information products." DTN delivers on-demand market information, commodity cash prices, industry news, analysis and location-specific weather information to over 120,000 subscribers. |
