Degussa AG, a German multinational company headquartered in Frankfurt/Main, has acquired the remaining 97.36% share of Carbogal (Carbonos des Portugal S Portugal (pôr`chəgəl), officially Portuguese Republic, republic (2005 est. pop. 10,566,000), 35,553 sq mi (92,082 sq km), SW Europe, on the western side of the Iberian Peninsula and including the Madeira Islands and the Azores in the .A.) from Petrogal by making use of a pre-emptive pre·emp·tive or pre-emp·tive

 fight after public tender. Degussa AG has been a long time minority shareholder in Carbogal, as well as a licensor of technology. With the acquisition of Carbogal, which manufactures industrial carbon blacks with a capacity of 35,000 tons per year and workforce of 80, Degussa AG is said to show its commitment to establishing itself in the growing Portuguese and Iberian markets. Degussa AG will also gradually expand its production capacity for precipitated silicas at its United Silica silica or silicon dioxide, chemical compound, SiO2. It is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in alkalies, and soluble in dilute hydrofluoric acid. Pure silica is colorless to white.  Industrial Ltd. plant in Ta Yuan/Taiwan. It is planned to increase the capacity by 30%. Degussa's target is to further strengthen its position as the leading silica manufacturer in the Far East and Southeast Asia Southeast Asia, region of Asia (1990 est. pop. 442,500,000), c.1,740,000 sq mi (4,506,600 sq km), bounded roughly by the Indian subcontinent on the west, China on the north, and the Pacific Ocean on the east. .
