actions slowing down the progress of H.R.1542, the Tauzin/Dingell bill. The Tauzin-Dingell bill aims to remove some of the restrictions placed on incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs) when the US Telecommunications Act was passed in 1996 to open local telephone markets to competition.

"As a company that was born, grew and flourished as a result of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, DSL.net is deeply concerned about any legislative activity that dilutes the full intent of the Act," said Struwas. "The Tauzin-Dingell bill would not open markets as its proponents claim, but, in fact, restrict them. The end result to consumers would be higher prices, lower quality of service and less end-user choice."

An accomplished telecommunications executive with over 15 years of senior-level experience, Mr. Struwas joined DSL.net in August 1998 and was named President and Chief Executive Officer in November 1998. He was appointed Chairman in November 2000.
