 DSC, MOTOROLA REAFFIRM JOIN COMMITMENT TO CELLULAR MARKETPLACE;
 AGREE TO SUSPEND LITIGATION
 DALLAS, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- DSC Communications Corporation, Plano, Texas, and Motorola, Inc., Schaumburg, Ill., today announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding reaffirming their joint commitment to the cellular communications marketplace. The two companies also announced that they have reached an understanding that serves as the basis for resolving the litigation between the two companies and have agreed to suspend that litigation, pending final documentation.
 The understanding provides for DSC to continue to supply its switching platform, the DSC DEX 600C, to Motorola, while cooperating in the continued support of Motorola's open cellular switch architecture. Terms of the agreement provide for deliveries of at least $130 million of DSC products and services to Motorola over the next five years.
 As part of the understanding, DSC and Motorola will establish adequate procedures to protect DSC's proprietary switch technology, while allowing continued sales of DSC switching equipment to a recently formed Motorola joint venture. Moreover, both parties reaffirm each other's right to work with other vendors to pursue cellular opportunities around the world.
 DSC has supplied switching products and services to Motorola since 1984.
 According to James L. Donald, DSC chairman and chief executive officer, "This understanding reestablishes the basis for a strong, trusting and profitable relationship between our two companies. It is an expression of confidence by Motorola in our products and ability to help them satisfy their customers. Further it is a welcomed resolution to the uncertainties that have surrounded our dealings with each other in recent months."
 George Fisher, chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola, said, "We are pleased that we were able to achieve this understanding. It underlines the commitment and dedication that DSC and Motorola share in serving our existing customers. The understanding also envisions exploring other opportunities where the two companies can cooperate."
 Edward F. Staiano, president and general manager of Motorola's General Systems Sector, said, "This means that DSC will continue its long-term supply relationship with Motorola for switching platforms. It enables both parties to pursue expanding global market opportunities while serving the needs of customers."
