VALENCIA - College of the Canyons' new performing arts center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre.  will be the venue for Saturday's fifth annual drum circle drum circle,
n a spiritual, communal, or therapeutic music experience in which participants join together in a circle with drums, move, dance using various percussion instruments, voices, and other devices.
, a fund-raiser for the college's Children's Center and Early Childhood Education Training Program.

The program's Circle of Friends will stage the event at 5 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre, 26455 N. Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia.

A drum circle is a huge jam session - designed as a fun, welcoming experience for all ages.

Drum circle participants express themselves collectively by using a chorus of hand-played drums, percussion percussion /per·cus·sion/ (per-kush´un) the act of striking a part with short, sharp blows as an aid in diagnosing the condition of the underlying parts by the sound obtained.  and vocals to create a musical song together while having a great time. It is not a professional ensemble, nor is it really about music, but rather a group of friends having a rhythm party.

Participants in the past have included parents, teachers, heads of major companies, college board members and other elected officials and those who simply enjoy the physical activity and the sound of drumbeats.

The drum circle event is sponsored and conducted by a representative of local manufacturer REMO REMO Reciprocal Enforcement of Maintenance Orders (UK)  Inc.

Money raised at the drum circle will help maintain the Child Development Center and purchase learning materials and equipment for classrooms and the children's yards.

Tickets for the event are $35 and include a champagne reception. Reservations may be made by calling the College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  Foundation at (661) 362-3493.
