DRS to Offer Live New Product Demonstrations at the 1997 U.S. Navy League Sea-Air-Space Exposition.

Company to Introduce New Corporate Logo to Navy

Diagnostic/Retrieval Systems, Inc. (ASE: DRS)("DRS") announced today that it will offer live new product demonstrations in booth 2601 at this year's United States' Navy League Sea-Air-Space Systems and Technology Exposition -- one of the most significant shows for U.S. Navy customers and the defense contracting community.

The demonstrations primarily will focus on the company's Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS)-based display workstations, airborne video and digital mission recording systems, high-capacity, high-speed digital data storage products, portable aircraft boresight equipment, and night vision and laser-based target acquisition systems. DRS also plans to display its new corporate logo for the first time at this annual event.

The show is being held at the Sheraton Washington Hotel, 2660 Woodley Road in Washington, D.C. from March 25 through March 27. -0-

Included on display in DRS's booth will be:

-- The AN/UYQ-65 Data Processing and Display Set -- the Navy's first next-generation Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS)-based workstation packaged to comply with the AEGIS shipbuilding program and the AN/SQQ-89 Open Systems Architecture Initiative. Designed to replace tactical and acoustic sensor displays in the SQQ-89 ASW combat system, the UYQ-65 fully supports the Navy's Joint Maritime Command Information System/Unified Build (JMCIS/UB) program for TAC-3 and TAC-4 software applications. The UYQ-65 also hosts the Navy's Sonar In-Situ Mode Assessment System II (SIMAS II), which uses real-time data to model and predict sonar sensor performance.

-- The AN/UYQ-70 Advanced Display System -- the Navy's first standard, next-generation open systems combat display workstation that can be configured for a variety surface, subsurface and airborne applications, including AEGIS, Cooperative Engagement Capability, Ship Self Defense System, Advanced Combat Direction System, AN/SQQ-89(V)X, E-2C surveillance aircraft and the new attack submarine (NSSN). Teamed with Lockheed Martin as prime contractor and, recently, subcontractor Hughes Aircraft, DRS continues to provide significant portions of hardware and software development, as well as manufacturing services for this system.

-- The Large Screen Rear Projection Display System -- a new, rugged, optical cradle with an LCD projector which can be mounted inside a horizontal large screen enclosure, offering a larger, 39-inch diagonal viewing area at less than half the weight and required power of existing systems. Immune to magnetic fields with no distortion between the outer edges and the center, this horizontal large screen display assembly can be utilized in the Navy's Computer-Aided DRT (CADRT) program, Combat System Track and Evaluation Management System (CSTEMS) program and foreign military sales programs.

-- The Airborne Separation Video System -- a high-speed, high-resolution digital imaging system for the test and evaluation of weapon separation events on board various fixed- and rotary-wing military aircraft. The system includes an electronically-shuttered, fast-frame digital imaging camera and a high-density, digital data storage device that meet the requirements of the OSD-sponsored, tri-service Central Test and Evaluation Investment program. The system interfaces with an air-to-ground data transmission system allowing camera settings to be previewed on the ground and by the pilot while in flight, eliminating error and the expense of re-testing.

-- The Radar Scan Converter -- a proven, dual-channel COTS subsystem consisting of two VME cards providing high-performance, dual-video display processing for multiple raw radar images. It features reverse scan conversion with offsets and zooms, dual-channel conversion with polar memory storage, multiple radar displays in X-Windows and a high-speed conversion rate capable of updating a 1,600- by 1,280-pixel resolution display from a 2,000 by 4,000 polar memory map in real time.

-- The Optical Data System -- a low-cost data storage system that provides write-erase-write cycles of 10 million times, stores the equivalent of 50 magnetic tapes recorded at 1,600 bits per inch. DRS's lightweight, portable Optical Data System is ideal for sea- and land-based mobile software development activities, program generation and data analysis centers and data distribution facilities.

-- The WRR-800 Series of Hi-8mm Video Tape Recorders -- the COTS-based design supports airborne, ground and sea-based mission applications. These products provide high-resolution imagery and audio recording of tactical and sensor data for the combat missions of the F/A-18 fighter aircraft, as well as other airborne and ground mobile applications requiring lightweight, low-powered, ruggedized video recording in harsh environments. DRS has successfully delivered over 1,200 recorders in this product line, which meets or exceeds critical performance, reliability and long-term support military requirements.

-- The AN/USH-42 Mission Recording System -- a high-performance, compact versatile mission data recorder with dual self-contained scan converters that capture FLIR, radar, two channels of video data, two channels of audio data and digital annotation on Hi-8mm tape. Part of the S-3B aircraft avionics system, the USH-42 is capable of air or ground playback, standard or non-standard video output formats and playback with standard, commercial replay equipment.

-- The MTG Series of High-Speed Data Storage Systems and Real-Time Collection Systems -- provide affordable, unprecedented high-capacity, high-speed data storage based on half-inch helical recording. Ideally suited for high-performance data collection, video and image storage, archiving and back up, they have a high data transfer rate of 12 MB per second over a SCSI-2 interface and a capacity of 42 GB per cassette. DRS's tape library systems are configurable for up to 2.6 PB for high-speed, mass data storage applications.

-- The Multiple Platform Boresight Equipment (MPBE) -- a portable ground-support system used on fixed- or rotary-wing aircraft for the alignment of navigation, targeting and weapons systems to ensure target accuracy. Already in use on domestic and international programs for the Marine Corps' AH-1W Cobra, AH-64A Apache and Apache Longbow helicopters, the MPBE incorporates the COTS-designed, laser-precision, electro-optical technology found in its Tri-Axial Measurement System.

-- The Night/Compass Rangefinder Operating System (N/CROS) -- a hand-held night viewing and rangefinding binocular used for forward observers, reconnaissance patrols, special forces and infantry units that incorporates an RS-232 interface for GPS, SINCGARS and digital map applications.

-- The Advanced Modular Ranging Eyesafe Laser -- a ground-based improved target acquisition system for targeting and rangefinding. The system can be configured for shipboard, airborne or ground-based applications.
