DRS Technologies awarded $3.4 million contract to supply Boresight equipment for United Kingdom aircraft.

PARSIPPANY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 1997--DRS Technologies Inc. ) announced today that it has been awarded, through its DRS Photronics Inc. subsidiary in Hauppauge, New York Hauppauge (pronounced /hɔpɔg/) is a hamlet in the Town of Islip and the Town of Smithtown in Suffolk County, New York, United States. , a contract valued at approximately $3.4 million from McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems to provide Captive Boresight Harmonization Kits (CBHK CBHK Captive Boresight Harmonization Kit ) for use with foreign Apache Longbow longbow

 helicopters.

These systems will be used to support a recent procurement by the United Kingdom of approximately 66 Apache Longbow aircraft. Options to equip additional rotary-wing attack helicopters could increase the total value of this award to approximately $5.0 million.

The CBHK is part of the Multiple Platform Boresight Equipment (MPBE MPBE Molten Plutonium Burnup Experiment
MPBE Master of Petroleum Business Engineering (Technical University of Delft and Energy Delta Institute)
) product line produced by the company. MPBE systems are portable, ground-support devices that align an aircraft's navigation, targeting and weapon systems with the pilot's sighting gear to ensure synchronization, resulting in target accuracy when weapons are released. These systems will allow this foreign military customer to quickly and easily boresight the Apache Longbow helicopter with equipment that is common across other rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft platforms. In addition to its deployment on U.S. Army and British Apache and Apache Longbow helicopters, Army National Guard AH-1F Cobra and U.S. Marine Corps AH 1-W Cobra helicopters, DRS's MPBE systems also are used on the Air Force's AC-130U gunship gun·ship

, the Cobra helicopters of Taiwan, and the Cobra and Apache helicopters of other allied countries through previously awarded U.S. foreign military sales That portion of United States security assistance authorized by the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, as amended, and the Arms Export Control Act of 1976, as amended. This assistance differs from the Military Assistance Program and the International Military Education and Training Program  programs. DRS already has delivered more than 170 MPBE systems to domestic and international customers in support of AH-64A AH-64A Apache Attack Helicopter, A Version  Apache and Apache Longbow aircraft.

DRS Technologies' chairman, president and chief executive officer Mark S. Newman, commented: "This most recent award for MPBE systems expands our international presence for this product line, while providing a new customer with a portable, cost-effective, common boresighting system capability for advanced combat aircraft. By developing products sufficiently generic for multiple-platform use, DRS addresses our military customers' requirements to integrate the latest technology into systems we deliver at a significant cost savings. The award of this contract demonstrates DRS's continuing leadership position in electro-optical alignment technology."

The core technology of TMS is the foundation of DRS's strategy to develop boresight products with commonality across multiple platforms. The unique technology of the MPBE is being considered for domestic and international fixed-wing aircraft, such as the F-16, F-15, F-14, AV-8B and F/A-18, as well as other rotary-wing aircraft.
