) announced today that it has received new orders to produce rugged computers for a variety of U.S. Army and Marine Corps ground force modernization applications.

The contracts, valued at $1.6 million, were received by the company from General Dynamics General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE: GD) is a defense conglomerate formed by mergers and divestitures, and as of 2006 it is the sixth largest defense contractor in the world[1]. The company has changed markedly in the post-Cold War era of defense consolidation.  Communications Systems in Taunton, Massachusetts Taunton is a city in Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States. It is the seat of Bristol County and the hub of the Greater Taunton Area. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 55,976.

Taunton's nicknames are derived from its history.

For these awards, the company's DRS Electronic Systems unit in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and DRS Laurel Technologies unit in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, will provide Explorer MP(TM) Rugged Portable Multi-Platform Workstations for a range of digital battlefield applications. DRS has received orders to produce over 1,500 Explorer MP(TM) workstations, including these latest awards. The rugged systems associated with these orders have accounted for more than $82 million in bookings for DRS over the past five years.
