DRS has delivered over 3,000 SPARC (Scalable Performance ARChitecture) A family of RISC CPUs from Sun that runs mostly under Sun's Solaris, but also under Linux and BSD operating systems. After development began in the mid-1980s by David Patterson of the University of California at Berkeley and Bill (TM)-based computer workstations, servers and other peripheral equipment to this customer under separate programs for more than five years and has been a systems integrator for the government for over 30 years. These high-performance systems are designed specifically for a variety of unique government applications.

The new rack-mounted servers produced for one of these awards will include the Sun(R) Solaris(TM) operating system, and the servers will utilize four high-speed UltraSPARC(TM) II processors. Designed for scalability from mainstream computer workstations to supercomputing servers, the UltraSPARC(TM) II meets the demands of today's intensive, network-centric, multimedia-rich applications. All systems supplied are equipped with removable disk drives and are certified to TEMPEST Level 1 system standards.
