) announced today that it has received new orders to provide tactical data link and high-frequency (HF) data communications data communications, application of telecommunications technology to the problem of transmitting data, especially to, from, or between computers. In popular usage, it is said that data communications make it possible for one computer to "talk" with another.  systems for U.S. and allied military applications. These products will be installed on various ship, air and land-based platforms and will provide real-time information exchange among commanders and ground, sea and air forces to support integrated battle space operations.

The contracts, with a combined value of $11.7 million, were awarded to DRS by U.S. government, international military and commercial customers. For these orders, DRS will provide newly designed Data Link Processors, Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS)-based AN/USQ-125 and AN/USQ-130 Link 11 Data Terminal Sets, Common Shipboard ship·board

Products associated with these awards enhance the ease of vertical integration with the embedment of data link encryption and address the need to provide the warrior with Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity on the battlefield. Work for these contracts will be accomplished by the company's DRS Communications Company unit in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania.

DRS's systems are considered the next generation for secure voice and data communications, as well as for advanced digital communications networks. The company's systems are software-upgradeable for ease of future enhancements to products already in the field.

DRS-produced AN/USQ-125, AN/USQ-130 and Common Shipboard Data Terminal Sets (CSDTS) are programmable devices within a Link 11 Tactical Data Information Link (TADIL-A TADIL-A Tactical Digital Information Link (half-duplex information link; also known in NATO as Link 11) ) that provide all required modem and network control functions in a NATO-approved Link 11 system. The latest design in a line of data link processing and embedded encryption devices for Link 11, TADIL-A will provide an option to host Link 22 message application software.
