) announced today that it has received a new award to provide manufacturing services for an advanced GEO Satellite System, recognized as the most powerful commercial communications satellite communications satellite  artificial satellite that functions as part of a global radio-communications network. Echo 1, the first communications satellite, launched in 1960, was an instrumented inflatable sphere that passively reflected radio signals back to  available today.

For this contract, DRS will manufacture, integrate, test and deliver subassemblies, including electronic power conditioners, which, when integrated into customer-provided equipment, comprise C-Band Traveling Wave Tube Amplifiers (TWTAs). Also known as transponders, TWTAs receive, process and transmit signals, performing the key functions of the satellite's communications payload. . Work for this award will be accomplished by the company's DRS Flight Safety and Communications unit in Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada and is expected to be completed by April 2002.
