DRS Technologies Receives Award to Provide Manufacturing Services for the World's Most Powerful Commercial Communications Satellite.

DRS Technologies, Inc. (AMEX:DRS) announced today that it has received a new award to provide manufacturing services for an advanced GEO Satellite System, recognized as the most powerful commercial communications satellite available today.

For this contract, DRS will manufacture, integrate, test and deliver subassemblies, including electronic power conditioners, which, when integrated into customer-provided equipment, comprise C-Band Traveling Wave Tube Amplifiers (TWTAs). Also known as transponders, TWTAs receive, process and transmit signals, performing the key functions of the satellite's communications payload. The $2.5 million contract was awarded to DRS by Boeing Electron Dynamic Devices, Inc., a supplier to Boeing Space & Communications Satellite Systems, a unit of The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) in El Segundo, California. Work for this award will be accomplished by the company's DRS Flight Safety and Communications unit in Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada and is expected to be completed by April 2002.

The Boeing 702 Series GEO Satellite will be launched into orbit from a platform in the Pacific Ocean with a Zenit-3SL rocket from the Sea Launch Company LLC to an altitude of approximately 22,300 miles. The 88-transponder NSS-8 satellite, under construction by New Skies Satellites N.V. (NYSE: NSK), will be capable of simultaneously serving all 50 states in the U.S., as well as Central and South America.

Evolved from the popular 601 Series high-power spacecraft, the Boeing 702 Series satellites are known for their massive size, high-performance and cost-efficiency. They can carry more than 100 high-power transponders and deliver virtually any communications frequencies customers may request for video broadcast, Internet, high-speed data and multimedia requirements. The NSS-8 satellite is expected to be particularly well suited for delivery of broadband multimedia services to homes, offices and cable providers.
