The award supports the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) Satellite Transmission Service - Global (DSTS-G DSTS-G DISN Satellite Transmission Services - Global (US DoD) ) program to provide commercial satellite communications transmission services to the Department of Defense. The initial $9.2 million in base-year funding was received by DRS to provide 288 MHz Ku satellite bandwidth for CENTCOM operations in Southwest Asia. The work for this program will be accomplished by the company's DRS Technical Services unit in Dulles, Virginia, and will continue through February 2015. Through the services provided by DRS, CENTCOM will be able to utilize critical Ku bandwidth to establish and maintain command and control communications for planning and conducting U.S. military operations via satellite at earth terminals covering its area of responsibility. CENTCOM's area of responsibility includes 27 countries in Northeast Africa, and Southwest and Central Asia. "DRS's cost-effective solution provides the best value to CENTCOM.
