) announced today that it has received a $15.5 million order to provide processor and computer products for digital battlefield applications supporting British armed forces under the United Kingdom's BOWMAN program.

The contract was awarded to DRS by General Dynamics General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE: GD) is a defense conglomerate formed by mergers and divestitures, and as of 2006 it is the sixth largest defense contractor in the world[1]. Work for this contract will be accomplished by the company's DRS Tactical Systems units in Palm Bay, Florida Palm Bay is a city in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The city estimated its population at 107,538 on 28 July 2007;[3]; it is the most populous city in the county. , and Farnham, Surrey, U.K. Product deliveries are expected to commence in early 2004 and continue through 2007.

The Platform BISA Processor Unit is a compact version of the company's Scorpion(TM) notebook computer system, which DRS provides for the core BOWMAN contract, but without the keyboard and display. The unit processes system applications and Command and Control (C2) data. The Commander's Crew Station is a display device used for situational awareness. Together, these systems provide improved combat support, real- time command and control capabilities, enhanced interoperability and situational awareness, assuring a seamless flow of battle command information.

The BOWMAN program will provide a secure digital voice and data communication system for U.K. armed forces that will be based on Internet protocol. With an objective to deliver a land-based C2 system that will provide the infrastructure to support all digitization applications over the next 30 years, the BOWMAN program will equip approximately 20,000 army vehicles and 70,000 service personnel as the largest defense communications program in the U.K. in over 50 years.
