DRS Technologies Receives $11 Million in New Orders to Provide Logistics Support for U.S. Air Force Tunner Loaders.

) announced today that it has received new orders valued at approximately $11 million from the U.S. Air Force to support Tunner 60K Cargo Loader/Transporters deployed at U.S. military bases worldwide.

) contracts were awarded to DRS by the Warner Robins Warner Robins, city (1990 pop. 43,726), Houston co., central Ga., in an agricultural region; inc. 1943. The surrounding area yields peanuts, grain, fruit, and livestock.  Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. For these orders, DRS will provide logistics support, including materials management Materials management is the branch of logistics that deals with the tangible components of a supply chain. Specifically, this covers the acquisition of spare parts and replacements, quality control of purchasing and ordering such parts, and the standards involved in ordering, , sustaining engineering and spare parts support, for more than 300 Air Force Tunners at 78 air bases around the globe. ), while the infrastructure portion of the materials management effort will provide the buildings and personnel necessary to make parts support possible.

Work for these orders will be performed by the company's DRS Systems & Electronics unit in St. Louis, Missouri, and is expected to continue through January 2007.

The Tunner is designed and produced by DRS. It is a versatile, mobile vehicle with a unit load capacity of 30 tons. Using the Tunner, military transport aircraft, such as the C-17 Globemaster and C-5 Galaxy, and large, commercial cargo aircraft can be loaded and unloaded in a fraction of the time previously required, dramatically improving the efficiency and response time of the military's deployment operations. Tunners are being used daily to support the war on terrorism Terrorist acts and the threat of Terrorism have occupied the various law enforcement agencies in the U.S. government for many years. The Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, as amended by the usa patriot act  and to aid in humanitarian relief efforts in potentially hostile areas, as well as areas stricken by natural disasters.
