) announced today that it has received a new contract valued at $10.3 million, including options, to provide Supplemental Weather Radar (SWR-250) systems, services and support to U.S. Navy and Marine Corps bases around the world. This award is part of a five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ IDIQ Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (contracting/procurement) ) contract.

The SWR-250 is a state-of-the-art Doppler weather radar system capable of providing real-time surveillance and advance warning of potentially severe weather systems that are developing near or moving toward military units. This meteorological me·te·or·ol·o·gy

. For the award, DRS will install SWR-250 fixed radars supporting the U.S. Navy. The five-year IDIQ contract will include delivery, installation, repair and replacement of hardware and software components, technical services, site surveys, on-site training and integration of software for all new systems, as well as retrofit for existing systems. Work for this order will be accomplished by the company's DRS Weather Systems unit in Enterprise, Alabama.

 system is a state-of-the-art Doppler radar system primarily used for the detection, processing and display of weather phenomena with the objective of generating advance warning of potentially threatening weather. It provides common weather radar requirements and simplifies the ability to detect, locate and track severe weather systems. The system provides quantitative reflectivity/precipitation information on weather targets within 240 nautical miles (480 KM) of the radar antenna and also provides quantitative mean radial velocity and spectral width (turbulence) information on weather targets within 60 nautical miles (120 KM) of the radar antenna.
