This competitively awarded contract follows the initial UYQ-70 award to the Lockheed Martin-DRS Technologies team in July 1994.

Production of these next-generation, Commercial Off-The Shelf (COTS)-based systems will be accomplished by the company's DRS Laurel Technologies unit in Johnstown, Pennsylvania Johnstown is a city in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States, 60 miles east of Pittsburgh and 46 miles (76.6 km) west-south west of Altoona, Pennsylvania. One of the first standard combat systems implemented with an open-architecture design, the UYQ-70 supports the common operating environment A uniform configuration of hardware and software throughout an organization. It is designed to eliminate software and data incompatibilities and improve troubleshooting. It implies the use of the same primary applications and Web browser as well as the same operating system, database  being implemented in surface, subsurface, land and airborne military platforms.
