DRS Technologies Awarded $60 Million in New Orders to Produce Driver Vision Enhancers for U.S. Army and Marine Corps Vehicles.PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- DRS Technologies, Inc. A forward looking infrared (FLIR) is the North American English term for a camera that takes pictures using the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. This new order brings the value of the current DVE contract to $124 million. Increasing drivers' vision capability, survivability and mobility in hazardous conditions during the day or night, the DVEs support U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps units deployed to Southwest Asia for Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. All three divisions of the company's DRS Sensors & Targeting Systems unit will be involved in fulfilling these orders for CECOM. The production of the DVEs' focal plane array sensors will be accomplished by the unit's Infrared Technologies Division, in Dallas, Texas. The assembly and testing of their B-Kits, sensor assemblies and display control modules will be accomplished by the Optronics Division in Palm Bay, Florida Palm Bay is a city in Brevard County, Florida, United States. DRS's uncooled infrared technology and electronics will be developed by the California Division in Cypress, California. The first production deliveries occurred in 2004 and are scheduled to continue through July 2008.
