DRS Technologies Awarded $2.8 Million Navy Contract to Design Emulator for AN/UYQ-70 Advanced Display System.PARSIPPANY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 1997--DRS Technologies, Inc. (AMEX AMEX See: American Stock Exchange : DRS DRS Drives (street suffix) DRS Dispute Resolution Service DRS Doctorandus DRS Department of Rehabilitative Services DRS Direct Registration System (securities) DRS Department of Rehabilitation Services ) announced today that it has been awarded, through its DRS Electronics Systems Inc. subsidiary in Gaithersburg, Md., a $2.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy to provide hardware and software design for a system that will emulate the functions of the AN/UYQ-70 Advanced Display System. The system will be used for operator training at shore locations. DRS's AN/UYQ-70 emulator will use advanced, low-cost display and data processing data processing or information processing, operations (e.g., handling, merging, sorting, and computing) performed upon data in accordance with strictly defined procedures, such as recording and summarizing the financial transactions of a technology to simulate the functions of the existing AN/UYQ-70 shipboard ship·board n. 1. The award is the result of the exercise of an option on an existing, multiple-year contract with a not-to-exceed value of approximately $37 million for emulation and training systems. The company received initial funding on this contract in February 1994. Including this latest award, approximately $22.5 million has been released to DRS on this program to date. Under a separate contract awarded by the U.S. Navy in July 1994 to the Lockheed Martin-DRS Technologies team, DRS manufactures the AN/UYQ-70 Advanced Display Systems and provides engineering development services. It implies the use of the same primary applications and Web browser as well as the same operating system, database being implemented in surface and subsurface ships, land vehicles and aircraft. This program positioned the Lockheed Martin-DRS Technologies team as a key U.S. supplier of high-performance display and computing workstations for a variety of mission critical environments. The UYQ-70 emulator will be manufactured using Commercial Off-The-Shelf Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) is a term for software or hardware, generally technology or computer products, that are ready-made and available for sale, lease, or license to the general public.
