DRS Technologies Awarded $16 Million Contract From The U.S. Navy For Combat Display Emulators.

) announced today that it has been competitively awarded, through its DRS Electronics Systems Inc. subsidiary in Gaithersburg, Md., a contract with a maximum value of $16 million from the U.S. Navy to provide engineering development, training and technical support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  for Combat Display Emulators.

Funding from the Navy will be released over the next five-year period to meet system upgrade requirements.

DRS's Combat Display Emulators are Commercial Off-The-Shelf Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) is a term for software or hardware, generally technology or computer products, that are ready-made and available for sale, lease, or license to the general public.  (COTS)-based systems that use advanced, low-cost display and data processing data processing or information processing, operations (e.g., handling, merging, sorting, and computing) performed upon data in accordance with strictly defined procedures, such as recording and summarizing the financial transactions of a  technology that simulates the functionality of the U.S. Navy's existing shipboard ship·board

, they meet the Navy's requirement's for operator training and testing, but at significantly reduced costs - typically half to one-third that of equipment built to military specifications.

DRS's Combat Display Emulators are designed using commercially designed cabinets that possess a similar appearance as the ship-installed consoles and provide an important budgeting advantage to military installations that develop applications, train personnel and engage in surveillance operations. These systems are used primarily at Navy shore facilities, such as laboratories, aircraft tracking sites, training sites and other land-based installations.
