A lifeguard at Castaic Lake Castaic Lake is a lake on Castaic Creek formed by Castaic Dam, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, near the town of Castaic. The 323,700 acre foot lake (399,000,000 m³) is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct, though some comes from the 154 mi²  is being hailed as a hero after pulling a drowning and unconscious woman from the water over the weekend, authorities said.

Roy Riley, a lifeguard at the lake for five years, was patrolling the swim beach at the facility's lower lake after 1 p.m. Sunday when he spotted two people in distress in the water and immediately swam out with a paddle board A printed circuit board that is used to adapt one device to another. It typically has an edge connector for plugging into a slot and contains very few electronic components. The name came from an early personal computer game card that added paddle board capabilities to the machine. .

``One (victim) ... was able to walk up to the sand,'' said Riley, 39. ``But there was a female under 7 to 8 feet of water and I noticed she was sinking. I pulled her to the surface. Her eyes were rolling back in her head and she wasn't breathing.''

Riley said he got the 21-year-old woman to the shore, laid her on her back and opened her airway airway /air·way/ (-wa)

``The stuff I did Sunday, the lifeguards here do that on a daily basis,'' he said. ``Everything we do is pretty much a team effort.''

But that does not diminish her esteem for the lifeguards.

``With the lifeguard staff, all of them have that same attitude,'' Ortega said. ``But they're heroes as far as I'm concerned. They really do put themselves in harm's way harm's way

Steep budget cuts forced the elimination of about a dozen lifeguard positions last February, but the county was able to allocate funds that restored the positions by Memorial Day weekend, Ortega said.
