DROP IN NATIONAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE TRIGGERS DECREASE IN EMERGENCY JOBLESS BENEFITS TO 10 WEEKS

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- New claimants enrolling after July 11 for federal emergency unemployment compensation (EUC) benefits will qualify for 10 weeks of extended benefits, the state Department of Labor and Industry announced today.
The federal program provides unemployment benefits to claimants whose regular jobless benefits have been exhausted.
Pennsylvanians enrolled in the program prior to July 11 will not be affected by the change and will continue to qualify for up to 26 weeks of emergency benefits.
The 10-week eligibility was automatically triggered based on a decrease in the national average total unemployment rate.
Emergency extended benefits, financed with federal funds, are in addition to regular benefits of up to 26 weeks, financed with state funds.
