DRIVER DEAD AT CRASH SCENE.

SUN VILLAGE - A 20-year-old Palmdale man was killed Thursday night when his sedan Sedan (sədäN`), town (1990 pop. 22,407), Ardennes dept., NE France, on the Meuse River. ``The impact was so great that the driver's seat of the Volvo was torn from the vehicle and thrown several feet northwest of the car,'' a California Highway Patrol report said. ``The seat belt remained intact around the driver.''

Waldner was pronounced dead by paramedics, while pickup truck driver Armando Lopez, 38, of Lancaster suffered what authorities described as moderate injuries.

The crash occurred about 7:50 p.m. as Waldner's 1981 Volvo 240 was headed west on Palmdale Boulevard at 60 to 65 mph. At 90th Street East, Waldner apparently drove through a red light and was struck by Lopez's northbound north·bound

Officials said both Waldner and Lopez were wearing seat belts.

The California Highway Patrol's Fatal Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident.

The intersection was partially blocked for more than two hours after the crash.
