The 60-member squad of male and female fifth- and sixth-grade precision marchers and drummers are especially seeking local businesses interested in sponsoring the student's efforts, said team coordinator Michele Butler.

The group conducts ongoing fund-raisers such as candy and rummage sales and they also hope to hold other money-making events such as a school dance soon, she said.

Students in the squad perform mostly to recorded top-40 or contemporary music such as the Spice Girls and Janet Jackson, Butler said.

In addition, Butler is also behind efforts to upgrade computer equipment for a new science laboratory at the school.

The school is trying to raise $3,000, which will be used primarily to enhance capabilities of existing older computers, purchase software and install CD-ROM drives, she said.

Cash donations toward the project are encouraged, but also needed are science-oriented items such as lab-type coats and goggles goggles,

LANCASTER - Paintings of contemporary artist Roland Reiss will be displayed April 8 through April 28 at the Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. Reiss, who exhibits his work around the world, will also conduct a lecture April 8 at 3 p.m.
