DREYER'S SCOOPS UP A DELICIOUS WAY TO DONATE CANNED FOOD; CANNED FOOD DRIVE ON 'PEPPERMINT THURSDAY'

OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In order to help meet the Bay Area Food Bank's increased need for canned food this holiday season, Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream employees have devised a "delicious way to donate."
Thursday, Dec. 16, 1993, has been declared "PEPPERMINT THURSDAY" and canned food contributors will have an opportunity to earn a "cone for a can." The company's employees will be accepting canned food items at the curb of the Oakland Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream headquarters office and in the Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream Parlor. In return for the canned food item, each donor will receive a free Peppermint ice cream cone scooped up by Santa himself (with a little help from his elves!). All food donations will be given to the Alameda County Food Bank as part of the "Share the Holiday" food drive.
"PEPPERMINT THURSDAY" will take place from 7 a.m. through 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, in Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream's parking lot located at 5929 College Avenue in Oakland (just west of the Rockridge Bart Station) or in the Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream Parlor located at 5925 College Avenue. People interested in donating canned food items and receiving a free Peppermint ice cream cone can enter Dreyer's parking lot from Chabot (on the east side of the building -- look for the large Peppermint Candy Canes), drop off the canned food items at curbside, receive their free ice cream cone and exit on the Claremont side of the parking lot. Walk-up donations can go to the Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream Parlor located on the College Avenue side of the building. (For those who come early in the morning and want a different treat, Dreyer's will provide a free scoop of vanilla ice cream to give a little cream to the commuter's coffee). Dreyer's proximity to Highway 24 (Claremont or College Avenue exits) and the Rockridge Bart Station make it an easy location for commuters to get off and on the freeway with relative ease, use public transportation or walk to the collection sites.
"PEPPERMINT THURSDAY" is a one-day event and will only take place on Thursday, Dec. 16.
