DREIER IS TOP FUNDRAISER IN SOUTHLAND.

WASHINGTON - Glendora Republican Rep. David Dreier David Timothy Dreier (born July 5, 1952), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since January 1981, representing California's 26th congressional district (map). He was first elected to the U.S. House at age 28 in 1980.  leads the pack of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  politicians in fundraising, new federal campaign reports filed Friday show.

Dreier raised $164,000 during the first three months of 2005, more than anyone else in the region. He ended the quarter with more than $2.5 million in his war chest, plus $114,000 in a political action committee he runs.

majority of Dreier's contributions came from financial organizations, including $2,500 from the American Bankers Association The American Bankers Association (ABA) is comprised of banks and other financial institutions. It seeks to promote the strength and profitability of the banking industry by Lobbying federal and state governments, building industry consensus on key issues, and providing products and  and $1,500 from the American Insurance Association. He also took in money from food marketing and agribusiness interests, including $5,000 from ice cream and cheese lobbyists.

``Dreier has always been a very strong fundraiser. That's been a hallmark of his career,'' said Jack Pitney, a political science professor at Claremont McKenna College A member of the Claremont Colleges, Claremont McKenna College is a small, highly selective, private coeducational, liberal arts college enrolling about 1100 students with a curricular emphasis on government, economics, and public policy. .

Recalling the congressman's closer-than-usual 2004 election, Pitney speculated that Dreier may also be working early to fend off a primary challenge in 2006.

``When that happens, members of Congress generally step up fundraising,'' he said. ``If you're a potential challenger, you have to wonder if you want to take on that kind of war chest.''

Dreier's fundraising was followed by Reps. Howard ``Buck'' McKeon, R- Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, , and Elton Gallegly Elton W. Gallegly (born March 7 1944), an American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1987, currently representing the 24th District of California (map). , R-Thousand Oaks. They raised about $111,430 and $91,000 respectively.

Gallegly had $1.1 million cash on hand and McKeon had $393,000.

McKeon, who chairs a House Education Committee panel overseeing higher education issues and is angling to become the chairman of the full committee next year, raised funds largely from vocational schools and other educational groups.

Most of Gallegly's funding came from residents of his congressional district.

Rep. Howard Berman, D-Van Nuys, raised $10 from the Sierra Club Sierra Club, national organization in the United States dedicated to the preservation and expansion of the world's parks, wildlife, and wilderness areas. Founded (1892) in California by a group led by the Scottish-American conservationist John Muir, the Sierra Club , the least in the area. He had $370,700 cash on hand.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles, raised $2,500 and had about $506,000 on hand.

Reps. Brad Sherman, D-Sherman Oaks, and Adam Schiff, D-Pasadena, had not yet filed their reports, which were due to the Federal Election Commission by midnight Friday.
