WASHINGTON -- Glendora Republican David Dreier David Timothy Dreier (born July 5, 1952), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since January 1981, representing California's 26th congressional district (map). He was first elected to the U.S. House at age 28 in 1980.  on Tuesday endorsed a ``full investigation'' into when and how much his GOP colleagues knew about former Florida Rep. Mark Foley's sexually explicit e-mails to teenage boys.

But Dreier, a top member of the House GOP leadership himself, does not believe House Speaker Dennis Hastert should resign over the handling of the Foley scandal, his spokeswoman, Jo Maney, said.

Despite being chairman of the House Rules Committee and sharing the responsibilities of House majority leader, Dreier was never informed about Foley's e-mails to teenagers until they hit the newspapers last Friday, Maney said.

``Congressman Dreier supports a full investigation into the matter,'' she said. ``He learned about this last week when everyone else did. He is completely outraged.''

Foley, who served in Congress for 12 years and chaired the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, resigned Friday when ABC News

Soon after, explicit electronic-message discussions dating back to 2003 surfaced that allegedly occurred between Foley and other teens in which the congressman chats about masturbation masturbation

Hastert initially said he did not recall having been made aware of the e- mails. He and other top Republicans later acknowledged knowing of them at least six months ago, but not about the sexually graphic messages.

``We went to Foley, confronted him. He said he wouldn't do it anymore ... period,'' Hastert told conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh Rush Hudson Limbaugh III (born January 12, 1951) is an American conservative radio talk show host and political commentator. The explanations have not pacified some conservatives, who have demanded Hastert's resignation.

Hastert on Tuesday dismissed calls for him to step down, faulted news organizations for not having written about Foley's actions earlier and agreed with Limbaugh that Democrats and the media are working in collusion to suppress conservative turnout in November.

President George W. Bush, speaking in California on Tuesday, expressed confidence in Hastert and also rejected calls for the speaker to resign.
