More than half this year's participants and volunteer staff members have been in the program in previous years. Each camper is given a task he or she must master by the end of the camp to put on their production, but they are also taught about all areas of the theater to round out the experience. The camp was the idea of the theater's manager, Dea McAllister, who said that growing up she attended sports, church and Scout camps, but theater camp was never available. Teens who attend the camp for two summers (or one summer and 200 hours of equivalent experience) are eligible the following year to become a volunteer teaching assistant. This summer's show will feature a working chocolate river, created by the playhouse staff, and an intricate set design. The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and 3 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 4.
