DRAG STRIP LAUNCHED AT SPEEDWAY.

The need for speed was met indeed Saturday, as peace officers and celebrities inaugurated a new one-eighth-mile drag strip at the Irwindale Speedway.

The $700,000, 1,000-seat drag strip is the latest addition to the speedway just west of the San Gabriel River San Gabriel River is the name of watercourses in two states:

Law enforcement and political officials said the new drag strip will provide a safe and legal place to race.
