 DR. LINDA C. SIMMONS JOINS FIRST NATIONWIDE AS
 RESIDENTIAL LENDING DIRECTOR
 SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Linda C. Simmons, a partner in KMPG Peat Marwick's national mortgage banking practice, will join First Nationwide Bank as head of its residential lending function, it was announced today by First Nationwide's chairman and chief executive officer, John M. Devine.
 "Linda Simmons' exceptional knowledge of real estate markets and her proven management skills and judgement will add depth to our senior team and keep us well positioned to meet our goal of premier customer service," Devine noted.
 Simmons will join First Nationwide in January 1992 as residential lending director, and as a member of the bank's policy and strategy committee.
 In her new assignment, she will have responsibility for a $7.6 billion portfolio of residential real estate loans and the bank's capital market operations which to date have recorded sales of over $1 billion of mostly fixed-rate mortgages in the secondary market. She also will oversee the bank's loan servicing operations.
 Simmons, 42, joined Peat Marwick in Washington in 1983, and was elected a partner in 1989. She had been responsible for profitability analysis, merger and acquisition activities, strategic planning, and organizational design for a variety of clients in the mortgage banking industry.
 From 1981 to 1983, she served as a financial analyst for Southwest Bancshares in Houston. Earlier in her career, she was an assistant professor at Boston University's campus in West Germany. She taught strategic planning, business policy and organizational management as part of the university's MBA program in Europe.
 For much of the 1970s, Simmons was associated with the University of Houston where she taught and worked on a number of research projects and programs, including the Apollo Project for NASA.
 A 1971 graduate of the University of Richmond, she received a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics. She also earned both a master's and doctorate degree in business administration from the University of Houston.
