 DR. FERDINAND PIECH APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT
 OF VOLKSWAGEN AG
 WOLFSBURG, Germany, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The supervisory board of Volkswagen AG today announced the appointment of Dr. Ferdinand Piech to the company's board of management effectively immediately and to the position of chairman of the board of management effective Jan. 1, 1993.
 The board also announced the appointment of Daniel Goeudevert, 50, to the position of deputy chairman of the board of management effective Jan. 1, 1993. Goeudevert will continue to serve as chairman of the Volkswagen brand board of management.
 These actions follow the recommendations made by the supervisory board's presidial committee on March 28, 1992.
 Piech, 54, who currently serves as chairman of the Audi AG board of management, will succeed Dr. Carl H. Hahn, 65, who has served as chairman of the VW board since Jan. 1, 1982. Under Hahn's leadership, the Volkswagen Group rose to the position of international importance as the world's fourth-largest automotive manufacturer and No. 1 in Europe.
 Piech, who was born in Vienna, Austria, graduated in engineering from Zurich Technical University in 1962. In 1963, he joined the engine testing department of Porsche KG, the company founded by his grandfather. In 1972, he joined Audi AG research and development as senior departmental manager for special projects. He was appointed to the Audi AG board of management in 1975 and became chairman of the Audi board in 1988.
