The DR was listed along with countries like Haiti Haiti (hā`tē), Fr. Haïti (äētē`), officially Republic of Haiti, republic (2005 est. pop. 8,122,000), 10,700 sq mi (27,713 sq km), West Indies, on the western third of the island of Hispaniola. , Iraq Iraq or Irak (both: ēräk`, ĭrăk`), officially Republic of Iraq, republic (2005 est. pop. 26,075,000), 167,924 sq mi (434,924 sq km), SW Asia.  and Somalia. Since then the country has made some progress in transparency (1) The quality of being able to see through a material. See alpha blending. , the economy is stronger and human rights violations have decreased. The DR is now 69th on the list with an average of 80.6, meaning it is no longer in the "failed state" category. Details: www.fundforpeace.org/web.
