DPT joins Novell's Self Certification Program; product certification is now accomplished in-house.

MAITLAND, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 1995--Recently, Distributed Processing The first term used to describe the distribution of multiple computers throughout an organization in contrast to a centralized system. It started with the first minicomputers. Today, distributed processing is called "distributed computing." See also client/server.  Technology (DPT), a leading supplier of high performance SCSI SCSI

The earlier Enterprise CNE (ECNE), which included WAN expertise, was replaced with the Master CNE, which itself expires in mid-2007.  Alliance Program (NCA (Network Computing Architecture) An architecture from Oracle for developing applications within a networked computing environment. It provides a three-tier distributed environment based on CORBA that uses program components known as "cartridges. ).

This new program gives companies the ability to test products in-house for Novell certification in half the time and at less expense than in the past.

"We are pleased that DPT has joined the Novell Certification Alliance Program," said David Owen

, vice president of Novell Labs, "DPT's participation with NCA will ensure a higher level of integration with NetWare and UnixWare."

In order to certify a product with Novell in previous years, DPT, as well as other companies in the industry, was required to submit product samples to Novell for testing. Because of the large volume of tests processed by Novell, this procedure could take up to six weeks to complete if no problems were encountered.

In addition, fees for product certification ranged from $2,500 to $5,000 per product. However, with the new self-certification program, which can be completed in about two weeks and for which companies are only charged an annual renewal fee, product certification has become both less time consuming and less costly.

According to Jim According to Jim is an American situation comedy television series originally broadcast by ABC. The show premiered with little publicity in October 2001, following the surprise hit comedy My Wife and Kids.  Campbell, DPT's vice president of marketing, the major benefits of participating in the Novell Certification Alliance Program are DPT's newly acquired ability to "certify any product, as often as we want and at no additional cost to DPT. Now, we can utilize the `Yes, NetWare Tested and Approved' and the `Yes, UnixWare Tested and Approved' certification marks for any product once it passes the Novell testing procedure conducted by DPT in-house."

In order for DPT to qualify for in-house testing, it had to pass a series of "tests" itself. First, two DPT staff engineers were given a week-long Novell training course which consisted of both classroom and hands-on work. Then, Novell engineers visited DPT's testing lab where DPT conducted a sample certification test using Novell testing procedure and Novell-certified testing equipment. (After live testing, DPT must forward the test results to Novell for review.)

Finally, DPT was also required to retain a Certified NetWare Engineer (CNE (Certified NetWare Engineer) See Novell certification. ) on staff. At present, DPT employs two CNE's, one is dedicated to the Novell certification program, and two more staff engineers are in the process of becoming NetWare certified.

DPT is a leading supplier of high performance peripheral controllers, disk array products and storage management software for microcomputers. Its technology includes the first caching disk controller and disk mirroring (RAID-1) controller for the PC. DPT products are sold worldwide through a network of major distributors and OEMs.
