DPT Live Demos of New SmartRAID V Family of Ultra2 SCSI and Fibre Channel RAID Controllers at Comdex/Fall 1998.

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1998--Distributed Processing Technology(r) (DPT(r)), a leading supplier of high-performance SCSI SCSI

Once common standard for connecting peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, etc.) to small and medium-sized computers. SCSI has given way to faster standards, such as Firewire and USB.
and Fibre Channel RAID solutions for servers and workstations, will be conducting live demonstrations of new products at COMDEX/Fall 1998, Las Vegas, Nevada. SmartRAID V, DPT's fifth generation of intelligent peripheral controllers, include the Millennium High Performance RAID Controllers, the Century Mid-Range Performance Hardware RAID Controllers, and the Decade Low-Cost Entry-Level Hardware RAID Controllers. All SmartRAID V products include PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

"The SmartRAID V family of intelligent controllers include RAID solutions for entry-level to enterprise environments," said Johnny Cardosi, vice president of worldwide distribution sales and marketing for DPT. "Utilizing DPT's revolutionary ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  design, advanced firmware architecture, a modular hardware design, and the Intel(r) i960(r) I/O processor, SmartRAID V controllers offer extreme performance, and the ultimate in flexibility and scalability for our customers. Benchmark performance tests show SmartRAID V controllers easily outperform the competition, even their latest products."

The Millennium is the controller of choice when performance is the top priority. DPT's superior design has been the difference in test environments ranging from loaded mixed transaction processing to high-volume data streaming. When requirements demand the lowest cost intelligent Ultra2 SCSI controller available, the SmartRAID V Century PM2554U2 (MSRP $592) stands out on top. Not only an intelligent Ultra2 SCSI adapter, it offers hardware RAID 0, 1, and 0+1 with an easy upgrade path to RAID 5, 0+5 and up to 64MB of cache via the snap-on RA4050 RAID Accelerator module. When high-end hardware RAID features are required, but a low price point is critical, the SmartRAID V Century PM2654U2-R-16M mid-range hardware RAID controller (MSRP $992) provides the perfect solution. It offers a more powerful processor, RAID 0, 1, 5, 0+1, 0+5, and up to 64MB of cache capacity. Both Century Ultra2 SCSI controllers will be demonstrated live at Comdex.

The Decade PM1554U2 low-cost entry-level hardware RAID controller (MSRP $658) provides full RAID functionality and exceptional performance at a price well suited to the entry-level RAID market. Never before have high-end hardware RAID features and performance been available at such a low price point.

All SmartRAID V controllers include an embedded Intel i960 I/O processor and are PCI 2.1 and I20 compliant. Other features include hardware-based RAID 0, 1, 5, 0+1, 0+5, and up to 256MB of cache using DPT ECC (1) (Error-Correcting Code) A type of memory that corrects errors on the fly. See ECC memory.

Available in the distribution channel late December, SmartRAID V Ultra2 SCSI controllers will be available with one, two or three Ultra2 SCSI channels or may be field-upgraded, as user's needs grow, to as many as three Ultra2 SCSI channels. In addition, SmartRAID V Ultra2 SCSI controllers can be upgraded to support Fibre Channel via a Fibre Chars, SCSI and Fibre Channel RAID controllers, RAID subsystems, and storage management software for servers and workstations. DPT products are sold worldwide in more than 100 countries through OEMs and a network of distribution channel partners. The privately held company privately held company
