DPP orders prosecution in murders; GANGS.

THE DPP has called for criminal prosecutions after the double murder of two men who were shot as they sat in a car, an inquest has heard.

Michael "Roly" Cronin, 35, from Finglas, Dublin 11, a drug trafficker, and James Maloney, 26, of Braithwaite Street, Dublin 8, were shot in the inner-city on January 7 by a man who was sitting in the back.

Detective Inspector Francis Sweeney told coroner Dr Brian Farrell yesterday at Dublin City Coroner's Court a file had been forwarded to the DPP who has directed criminal prosecutions.

A joint inquest into the men's deaths was opened in February.
