law, all of the state's investor-owned utilities are required to join an RTO. The role of the RTO is to act as an independent third party to manage the regional transmission grid and allow power to move freely between markets. The PJM grid runs from the east coast to Illinois and serves 44 million people.

"In selecting PJM, we saw an organization that was able to put theory into practice and create the country's largest, operating regional transmission organization," said James Mahoney, DP&L President and Chief Executive Officer. "Now that we are a fully integrated member, we are excited about the future as we work within the PJM system to provide our customers with reliable, cost-effective power."

DP&L's first step in the integration process occurred in June of last year when it turned over certain transmission responsibilities to PJM. Since then, DP&L has been working with the PJM staff to coordinate and integrate computer and communication systems, ensuring a smooth transition.
