DPL Meets All Customer Energy Needs.

DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1999--

DPL's (NYSE:DPL) electric generation met all of its customer demand during the intense heat for the second-straight day.

"DPL-operated generation was there when our customers, and the market, needed it," said Allen Hill, DPL Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer. "This high level of availability allowed us to meet all customer demand and be a net seller of generation."

With the heat index topping 105 degrees, all DPL generation was available and operating, including its new combustion turbine peaking units. DPL's electric distribution system also performed well once again, with no heat-related customer outages.

"While we always encourage customers to use energy wisely, we are not asking them to take any out of the ordinary actions," continued Mr. Hill. Yesterday, DPL's customers set a record peak usage of 3,095,000 kilowatts, about 3% higher than last year's peak.

This week's performance mirrors DPL's exceptional generation record of last summer when the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) recognized DPL for its reliability. In fact, a report released by the PUCO on power shortages in June 1998 recognized DPL as being Ohio's only major electric company that did not have to curtail power to its customers.
