:DPAC) today announced it has received its first three prototype orders for the Airborne(TM) 802.11b Wireless LAN Node Module. Additionally, DPAC has achieved a milestone by winning its tenth design win for the Airborne module.

"We established a set of target vertical markets when we launched the Airborne product line and we are excited to see that the entrance into those markets is going as planned," said Brett Trowbridge, vice president of DPAC. "Achieving ten design wins is a key milestone in our Airborne marketing plan. Seeing our OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  customers reach the prototype phase of their developments underscores the quick time-to-market advantage that Airborne offers."

Typically, an OEM will first order an Airborne evaluation kit to test the performance of the module in their application. If the testing is successful, the OEM will commit engineering resources to design the Airborne module into their application. This is called a "Design Win." An OEM will then place orders for Airborne modules to be used in prototype builds. The prototypes are used by the OEM for performance evaluations and are typically sent out to the OEM's end customer for acceptance testing. Upon successful market acceptance by the OEM's end customer, the OEM could begin placing "early production" orders for Airborne modules, and eventually move into "full production" -- the point where DPAC would begin receiving larger production orders.

The Airborne 802.11b Wireless LAN Node Module was developed to be an easy drop-in web-enabled, Wi-Fi solution that cost-effectively and quickly provides local area network (LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. ) and Internet connectivity to a wide range of industrial electronic applications. The module integrates a radio, base-band processor, application processor, and software tools. Since there's no need to develop the software or the RF/Communications expertise in-house, OEM's can realize reduced development costs and quick time-to-market.
