DP&L Seeks VIP Volunteers for Energy Awareness Month.

DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1998--October is a Very Important Month -- National Energy Awareness Month, in fact.

It's also a time when many Ohio residents are thinking about preparing their homes for cooler temperatures. That makes it a very good month to talk about Dayton Power and Light's Operation VIP (Volunteer Insulation Program). Concerned citizens are encouraged to volunteer for VIP to help keep those in need warm throughout the upcoming winter.

DP&L began the VIP initiative in 1983 as a means to help needy need·y

their homes. The program -- the only one of its kind in the nation -- recycles old newspapers into insulation, which is then installed by volunteers into the homes of families in need. DP&L estimates that $1.6 million in energy costs and 2.7 million kilowatts of energy are saved annually as a result of the program. The average household saves $65 a year in heating costs once the insulation is installed.

DP&L offers VIP and a variety of other free programs that are designed to help residents save energy and money. For more information on the programs or to volunteer to help out with VIP, call 1-800-Way-ToGo (1-800-929-8646).

"With colder weather on the way, we think it's important to remember those in our community who need home insulation to keep warm through the next few months," said Doug Petitt, DP&L's Energy Resource Center Manager. "VIP wouldn't be possible without all of our wonderful volunteers, and we want to thank them for everything they've done to make the program a success."

More than 25,000 homes have been insulated in·su·late
