DOZENS OF OFFICERS PRAISED FIVE GET MEDALS OF VALOR, CITY'S TOP HONOR.

GLENDALE - The Police Department honored more than 300 police personnel at an appreciation luncheon Thursday, recognizing them for heroic acts during a sniper See sniping software.  shooting and the slaying of a Burbank Police officer.

Investigator Keith Sobeleski, Agents Mark Stocks and Pat Richardson, Sgt. Tom Kuh and Officer Jason Laase were recognized for their ``acts of extraordinary bravery, far and above the call of duty, which placed their lives at great risk in order to save others.''

``It's a team effort, but these officers were either pinned down or taking immediate, heavy fire,'' said Lt. Donald Meredith, chairman of the Glendale Citizens for Law and Order, the committee that hosted the event.

Officers Scott Byrne Scott Byrne (June 3 1961 - July 3 2005) was an American drummer in the rock duo Instant Death, which was formed in 1991.

Along with Jack Petruzzelli, he was a member of the band The Works before Byrne and Dave Dreiwitz formed Instant Death.

The committee decided to give ``campaign ribbons'' for the first time to the hundreds of officers involved in both the Paula shooting and the Burbank incident.

``Because these two events were so significant and required such personal sacrifice on behalf of everybody ... we decided to utilize the military philosophy of rewarding them for their dedicated efforts while either directly or indirectly under fire,'' Meredith said.

Investigator Darrell McEntarffer was named Officer of the Year; Jennifer Diaz, Civilian of the Year; Officer William Torley, Reserve Officer of the Year; and Peter Haley, Volunteer of the Year.
