DOZENS FILE TO RUN FOR OFFICE.

Dozens of candidates filed papers by Friday's deadline to run on the Nov. 5 ballot for contested seats on city councils and school boards throughout Ventura County.

The deadline was extended to Wednesday for seats where the incumbent decided not to seek re-election. Other candidates had until 5 p.m. Friday to file their papers. A complete tally of the filings won't be available until Monday from the Ventura County Registrar's Office.

City council jobs on the ballot in November include those in Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , Moorpark, Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  and Camarillo.

Moorpark candidates who filed for the two-year mayoral term and two, four-year council seats include: Mayor Patrick Hunter Patrick Edward Hunter (born October 24, 1964 in San Francisco, California) is a former American football cornerback who played 10 seasons for the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals from 1986 to 1995. ; Councilman Clint Harper faces council challengers Bernardo Perez and Janice S. Parvin.

The deadline in Moorpark's race for council seats is extended to Wednesday because Councilman John E. Wozniak did not pull papers for re- election.

In Thousand Oaks, four council seats are open, including Supervisor-elect Linda Park's. Those seeking election are: Councilman Andy Fox For the FoxTrot character, see .

Candidates for Park's remaining term of two years are Randy Hoffman, Bob Wilson and Don Morris.

In Camarillo, candidates for the three council open seats include: Councilwoman Jan McDonald, Councilwoman Charlotte Craven, Councilman Michael D. Morgan and challengers Carlos Cruz and Greg Olewiler.

School boards also are facing a busy election year.

Conejo Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  has three open seats, and candidates are: Trustee Mary Jo Del Campo, Trustee Timothy G. Stephens, Trustee Patricia H. Phelps, and challengers Sydney Stein and Joel Wyenn.

Simi Valley Unified School District has two open seats, with Trustee Carla Kurachi filing for election.

Moorpark Unified School District has two open seats. The deadline has been extended because Trustee Gary Cabriales is not running for re- election: contenders include Trustee David Pollock and challengers Ken Sherman and Jason Spadaro.

Oak Park Unified School District Oak Park Unified School District (OPUSD) is a K-12 school district in southeast Ventura County, California, USA. It consists of six public schools in the community of Oak Park.  has three open seats, and candidates include Trustee Cindy Vinson and challengers Daniel Bilchik, Marie Panec, Jeri Fox, Robert Kahn and Mary Rees.

Pleasant Valley Unified School District has three open seats, and candidates are: Trustee Jennifer Miller, Trustee Ron Speakman and challenger Roger Lund.

The Ventura County Community College District has three seats open. In Area 1, Trustee John Tallman faces challengers David Norrdin and Mary Ann Rooney; in Area 2, Cheryl Heightmann is running; in Area 5, Trustee Arturo D. Hernandez faces challengers Deshay Ford and Sylvia Schnopp.

The Ventura County Board of Education has three seats open, including the remaining term of Trustee Albert Rosen, who resigned after he was convicted of child molestation Child molestation is a crime involving a range of indecent or sexual activities between an adult and a child, usually under the age of 14. In psychiatric terms, these acts are sometimes known as pedophilia. . Rosen represented areas of Moorpark and Simi Valley. Teacher Audra Strickland was appointed interim trustee until the election.

Trustee Yvonne Gallegos Bodle, who represents Area 1, which includes Ventura and portions of Oxnard, will not run for re-election, extending the filing period for her seat.
