DOZEN GET ANY BETTER; Garry targets 12th medal.

Byline: KENNY STEPHEN

OBAN CAMANACHD ...2 INVERARARY ................3

MIGHTY Garry MacPherson vowed to make history next year after his glory double helped Inveraray win shinty's Glasgow Celtic Society Cup.

The Winterton striker was on target twice as the holders came from behind to reclaim their title with a superb second-half display.

MacPherson has now equalled the incredible record of 11 winners' medals held by Kyles player Barnie Crawford.

And the hitman claimed he's ready to go one better and break that tally next term.

He said: "It was fantastic to win the trophy. After scoring two goals, I will have to come back here again next year to try and get the record.

"We made it difficult for ourselves but it was a great second half performance to win it." Inveraray had the better of the opening 15 minutes and it took some tough defending from Oban to keep them at bay.

MacPherson went close with two direct free-hits but Oban refused to buckle under Verb 1. buckle under - consent reluctantly
knuckle under, succumb, give in, yield

consent, go for, accept - give an affirmative reply to; respond favorably to; "I cannot accept your invitation"; "I go for this resolution"
 the pressure.

And against the run of play The term "against the run of play" is used in football (soccer) to describe an event or action against the flow of the game. For example, if team A is having all of the possession, all of the chances and are dictating the game, yet team B have one chance and score from it then that  they took the lead in 37 minutes when a Scott MacMillan free-hit from the left crashed in to the net.

The Camanachd bench jumped for joy and were even more delighted when their side held out to half-time.

The interval gave Inveraray the chance to draw breath and they came flying out the traps at the start of the second half In 49 minutes they were level when Chris Crawford Chris Crawford may refer to:

smashed the ball past Gavin Stoddart.

And just after the hour the Winterton Park outfit went in front through hero MacPherson.

Graham Cameron awarded Inveraray a penalty on the right of the area.

MacPherson stepped up and hammered the ball to the left of Stoddart and in to the net.

And in 70 minutes Inveraray put the seal on their victory after Oban keeper Stoddart made a long dash from his goal to try to clear an attack.

When he failed to cut out the danger the ball broke to MacPherson and he slotted home his second of the afternoon.

Oban and Inveraray players were immediately involved in a scuffle around the penalty box.

It was handbags at dawn stuff but when it settled down Oban defender Liam MacIntyre was sent for an early bath.

But the 10 men of Oban managed to pull one back through a Scott MacMillan shy just before the end.

However, Inveraray held on to land the cup for the second successive season.
