HELP FOR DIABETICS and their families and carers are invited to a North Tyneside support group. The group, which meets every other month at North Tyneside General Hospital's Education Centre, aims to support people battling the condition.

KICKATHON FOR KIDS A MARTIAL arts school is holding a sponsored Kickathon this week. On Thursday, members of the school will gather at Springfield Community Centre in Forest Hall, Newcastle from 6pm till 9pm for the event.

The Kickathon will raise cash for Children in Need.

GOLDEN GESTURE A GENEROUS elderly couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary sacrificed any gifts in aid of charity.

The pair, who wish to remain anonymous, donated pounds 350 to Tynemouth Ladies Lifeboat Guild after they asked friends and family to make donations instead of buying presents. Only days later, the Guild received another donation. Margaret Appleby, manager of The Spread Eagle, Preston Village, North Tyneside, handed over pounds 180 raised by the Leek leek: see onion.
