The Alnwick and Castle Morpeth Councils employee, who contracted meningitis in 1992 as a student, is appealing for sponsors.

He said: "I have had a personal experience of this dreadful disease but luckily, have no severe after-effects.

I am really looking forward to raising money to help others who are less fortunate."
