) has formed a joint venture with Excite At Home Corp. in order to form a new company to produce Work.com, a Web site for small and midsize businesses. The two companies said they will sell a minority interest in the newly-formed company later this year through an initial public offering.

The new operation will combine content from Dow (Direct OverWrite) See magneto-optic disk.  Jones' dowjones.com, a free site established last summer that is targeted to businesses, and Excite At Home's existing site for small businesses, also named Work.com. The companies said the new, combined site will be designed as a home portal for small and midsize businesses. To be launched later this year, the new site will carry content from Dow Jones wire services and The Wall Street Journal and Excite At Home services such as e-mail, Web hosting Making a Web site available on the Internet. Many ISPs host a few personal Web pages for an individual at no additional cost above the monthly service fee, but the address is subordinate to the ISP; for example, www.friendlyisp.com/pat_smith.  and related business services. Content will be delivered in vertical market segments, with 29 industry areas planned so far.
