      DOW CORNING PLANS $262 MILLION EXPANSION OF ITS BARRY PLANT
    MIDLAND, Mich., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Dow Corning is announcing plans for a $262 million expansion of its manufacturing facilities in Barry, Wales, over the next four years.  The expansion will incorporate the latest silicone technology and more than double the plant's manufacturing capabilities for silicone basics and intermediates.  When complete, it will be one of the world's largest plants of its kind, along with Dow Corning's plants in Carrollton, Ky., and Midland.
    "We are optimistic for the long-term growth of silicone markets in Europe and throughout the world," said Richard E. Hazleton, president of Dow Corning Europe.  "And we're confident in our leadership position in those markets."
    The Barry site expansion represents Dow Corning's commitment to improve -- not only in terms of capacity -- but in terms of safety, Responsible Care for the environment, quality and productivity.  "Our investment includes the design and installation of the latest technology to address all aspects of world-class capability," stated Hazleton.
    Already one of Dow Corning's global sourcing points, a substantial increase in worldwide exports is expected as a result of the expansion.
    Design work for the plant expansion will begin immediately with completion expected by 1995.  Dow Corning anticipates 100 jobs will be created, increasing the site's work force to 550.
